A Few Things to Know Before You Come
Frequently Asked Questions
-
Late October, watch for details. Our daily hours will be…
Tuesday through Sunday, 8am–3pm.
Beginning in December, Matilda stays up late. Evening hours, wine, cocktails and more are coming soon.
-
We do! Reservations are available through Resy, and we encourage them if you have your heart set on a particular time. But we also keep plenty of seats open for walk-ins because sometimes breakfast should be spontaneous. We sure want you to come.
-
A little bit of everything. A big cozy booth for settling in, high tops that seat up to five, intimate two-tops, and plenty in between. Whether you’re meeting a friend for breakfast, settling in for lunch, or bringing the whole crew, we’ll do our best to find you a happy spot.
-
Breakfast and lunch are inspired by things we’ve eaten, places we’ve traveled and dishes we love. Some will feel familiar, some might be new to you, and hopefully there’s always something that makes you curious.
-
You’re welcome to grab coffee and a pastry to go. Matilda’s is a breakfast and lunch restaurant, so our tables are reserved for guests joining us for a meal. If you’d like to settle in with just coffee and pastry, our sister bakery Bloom Bake Shop is just down the street and would love to have you.
-
Absolutely. Matilda’s is family friendly and little people are very welcome. We simply ask that children are supervised and able to share the space comfortably with the guests around them. Curious kids, good food and good manners are all welcome here.

Our younger guests have their very own Robin’s Menu, with a few simple, delicious choices just for them. [link to Robin’s Menu)

We want as many people as possible to find something delicious to eat here. Our menu includes vegetarian, vegan and gluten-friendly choices, and our team is happy to help you navigate allergies and dietary needs. We work in a shared kitchen, so we can’t guarantee an environment completely free from any particular allergen, but we’ll always take your needs seriously and be honest about what we can accommodate.
-
We’re keeping Matilda's laptop-free space. We want our tables filled with breakfast, lunch, conversation and people spending time together. So tuck the laptop away, bring someone you like (or a good book), and stay awhile.
-
Yes, with a little planning. For larger parties, we encourage emailing us at hello@waltzingmatildasmadison.com so we have the best chance of seating everyone together.
-
You can order breakfast or lunch to take with you when you’re on the go. [link to take out menu)
-
We do. You’ll find wine, beer, sake and a small collection of cocktails alongside coffee, tea and plenty of non-alcoholic choices.
-
Street parking is available throughout the surrounding neighborhood. Give yourself a few extra minutes at busy times, enjoy a little stroll, and come hungry.
-
Yes. Matilda’s is accessible, and if there’s anything we can do to make your visit more comfortable, please let us know.
-
Because all of our seating is indoors, we’re only able to welcome service animals.
-
Nope. Waltzing Matilda’s takes its name from the spirit of the song, not an Australian menu. Our food wanders a bit, inspired by things we’ve eaten, places we’ve traveled and dishes we simply can’t stop thinking about.

For now, Matilda takes a rest. Beginning in December, we’ll be opening the doors again in the evening for wine, cocktails and a menu made for lingering. More soon.
